Saturn BM
The Nera Saturn Bm provides the heart that powers the communications services between a ship and the outside world. It communicates via Inmarsat-B, the efficient, all-digital and global Inmarsat system that support telephone and telefax services, telex and Internet and LAN access, as well as the emergency services required for deep-sea and passenger ships. The Nera Saturn Bm is a world leader. It consists of a sensor-stabilized antenna above decks and an electronics unit and its peripherals below decks, usually on the bridge of a vessel.
A typical installation offers:
- Telephone of broadcast quality.
- 9.6 kbps Group 3 (G3) telefax.
- 9.6 kbps data communication (ASD).
- 56 or 64 kbps data communication (optional).
- 50 baud telex (optional).
- Encryption (optional).
Nera Saturn Bm special features
- Telephone book holding up to 99 numbers of up to 22 digits each.
- Traffic logging and access code.
- Credit card Phone and Pay Phone (Charge tone) support.
- Restricted
dialing and restricted LES.
- Pre-charge minutes.
- Full safety and distress alarm facilities as specified by the IMO/SOLAS.
- Direct dialing from data equipment using ITU-T V.25bis protocol.
- GPS interface.
- Gyro interface (Step-by-step, Synchro and NMEA).
- Downloading of differential GPS information and similar broadcast information (optional).
Additional optional features, operating within satellite global beams, include:
- Configuration to serve as a Leased Gateway via the Inmarsat second- and third-generation satellites at 25 °E, 109 °E and 98 °W.
- Bandwidth Efficient Satellite Transport (BEST) service providing direct connections between mobile Terminals and subscribers connected to fixed land networks and providing throughputs up to 256 kbps.
