The sail-training vessel Kaliakra is a symbol of the maritime heritage of Bulgaria and is one of the fastest and most attractive tall ships in the world.

She was built at the Gdansk Shipyard, Poland in 1984 and is owned by the shipping company Navigation Maritime Bulgare.

The ship has participated numerous times in the Cutty Sark Tall Ships regatta organized by the International Sailing Training Association (ISTA). Her reputation as a competitive sailing boat and the international popularity has people all over the world cheering her on. The activities accompanying the regatta and the numerous marine festivities attract a great number of visitors, government officials and celebrities. Members of royal families and heads of state, as well as chairmen of the International Sail Training Association have all been guests on board Kaliakra.

During her voyage in the 2001 Cutty Sark Tall Ships' Race, Kaliakra will participate in cruise trips to Norwegian fjords as well as the three racing legs, two of which are competitive: Antwerp - Alesund and Bergen - Esbjerg. The crew will be changed at Alesund between the two racing legs.
